When you find yourself using an app regularly or seem to always revisit an app for tech integration into the classroom, then I think they are worth mentioning. I app watch and download quite a bit, but that does not mean I always keep the app. I have created a folder on my iPad entitled 'apps to try'. If the app has not been used after a few weeks, then I tend to delete it. If the app makes it out of the trial folder to another, then it is a keeper!
Pocket (I use it everyday)
Pocket (formerly known as read it later) is a place where I store reads that I cannot get to at the moment. I like pocket because I can put tweets directly in for storage, articles from the web, and materials I receive via email. Once I go in to pocket, I can them archive the article or send it on to my delicious e-stack for TOK. I like the ease of use of pocket on the iPad and the various places you can send the articles prior to archival.
Voicethread ( I always come back to this app....my old faithful)
I really like Voicethread as a tool for collaboration, evaluation and celebration. I have been a Voicethread fan for 3 years now, but actually find the app on the iPad easier to use than its web based version. Students have the option of commenting via typed text, audio or by the newer feature with the webcam. The annotation feature also makes this app more powerful whereby students can highlight specifics. I just jing a tutorial and email it to students. They do the rest. This is also another way to get parents engaged by asking them to leave comments on student work.
Deck (this app was recently transitioned to my presentation folder)
Deck is a presentation app that does most f the work for you and keeps you from abusing it, but limiting text. You can use pictures, graphs, and captions. I like the animated transitions along with the different themes to allow punch to the presentation. I am hoping Deck will add a feature that allows for exporting and emailing.
